National Team Coaches
18’s Head Coach: Cory Tidwell
Coach Tidwell finished a great career at Ole Miss where she was a middle blocker and right side hitter. She was an SEC player of the week 6 times throughout her college career. She played for the highly recognized Texas Advantage Volleyball Club in which her team finished 5th at Nationals her senior year. Cory has been part of the Carolina Courts coaching staff for the past several months and is currently the middle school and JV Assistant Coach at Charlotte Christian. 17’s Head Coach: John Brannon
Coach Brannon is the current head coach at Butler High School. In 2008 John, lead the Bulldogs to an elite 8 appearance. He has over 7 years of coaching experience with both boys and girls. He spent his first few years coaching boy’s high school volleyball in Madera, California and the last five years coaching girls in North Carolina. He spent last season coaching for the Union Volleyball Club.
17’s Assistant Coach: Karen Bradbury
Coach Bradbury is the current head coach at Providence High School. In the 4 years that she has been Head Coach at PHS, her team has been Conference Tournament Champs in 2006 and 2007; took 2nd in State in 2006 and were in the Final Four in 2007. They have an overall record of 76 wins and 32 losses. Before taking over the Head Coach position, Karen was the JV and Assistant Varsity Coach at PHS for 6 years. As the Assistant Coach, she assisted the Varsity team to 3 State Championship wins and her JV team had the best conference record for 6 years. Karen has also been active in Junior Olympic Volleyball over the past 12 years and has had teams qualify and compete at Nationals 4 times. She has coached club volleyball at CJV in South Charlotte, at MVSA in the DC area and most recently, she has joined the coaching staff at Carolina UVC.
16-1 National Head Coach: James Zorn
Coach Zorn was a well established volleyball player at Lake Shore High School in NY. During his high school career Zorn lead his team to the state championships in which he was named MVP and was an all conference selection. Zorn was also named to the Fab 50 list by Volleyball Magazine. He continued his playing career at Mercyhurst (PA) where he was a 4 year starter, captain and all conference selection. He has over 9 years of coaching experience at both the high school and club level. His high school teams have won 5 conference titles and 2 district titles. He has been a club coach at Union Volleyball Club for the past 4 years in which he has led his team to several tournament wins including the Southern Classic, Peachtree and Jr. High Neighbor Tournaments.
16-2 National Head Coach: Jamie Arnold
Jamie was a standout volleyball player at Starmount High School. She went on to play two years at Wingate University. She is currently the Head Coach at Charlotte Christian High School and has been a club coach for Union Volleyball Club for the past 4 years.
15’s Head Coach: Carrie Powell
Coach Powell was a 4 year varsity letter winner at Faith Academy in Manila, Philippines and played college volleyball at Montreat-Anderson College (now Montreat College) in Montreat, NC. She coached the varsity volleyball team at Parkwood High School for 4 years, at Sun Valley High School for 11 years, started the program at Weddington High School in 2000 and is in her 10th year there. Coach Powell also started the Union Volleyball Club 8 years ago in which her objectives to coaching is to improve all the players in their individual skills and get them to work together so they excel as a team.
14’s Head Coach: Brook Hammers
Coach Hammers has over 10 years of coaching experience where she has spent the last two years as the Head Coach at Marvin Ridge High School. She has coached club for several years with clubs in Florida and then spent last season at Union Volleyball Club.
13’s Head Coach: Ashley Yocum
Coach Yocum had a great career at Jonathon Alder High School before heading off to Malone College outside of Canton, Ohio. At Malone College she was a 4 year starter, team captain, Conference, Regional and National Player of the week. She spent last year as the Assistant Coach at Wright State University. She has over 3 years of club experience for the Kaepe Buckeye Volleyball Club.
Shelton Collier: Coach Collier is currently the head coach at Wingate University. He has lead the Bulldogs to an impressive 143-48 career mark over the past 8 seasons. The Bulldogs have gone undefeated in The South Atlantic Conference for the past 40 matches dating back to 2007 season. He has over 28 years of coaching experience that includes being named ACC Coach of the Year (Georgia Tech- 11 years), Big East Coach of the Year (Pitt), Regional Coach of the Year (Pitt), Assistant to the Women’s National Team, and several years as the Head Coach for the Youth National Team in which he lead the 2003 Youth National Team to a fourth place finish at the World Championships. His Youth National Team upset then number 1 ranked Russia. No other Youth National team has achieved such accomplishments. Shelton is still involved with the Youth Junior National Programs.
Barbie Curry: Barbie Curry is the Co-Director of Carolina UVC. She had a very successful high school career and went on to play college volleyball at Wingate University under Shelton Collier. Curry was an all conference performer, MVP and team captain during her stint at Wingate. Curry returned to Wingate as a Graduate Assistant under Collier from 2006-2008. She has over 6 years of club coaching experience and started the Carolina RISE in 2009.
Regional Team Coaches
Brian Bistriech (U17 Regional Coach)
Brian has been involved with North Carolina Volleyball for several years. He has coached at Lake Norman VBC and he has been a NC High Performance program coach taking 2 teams to the National HP Competition in 2007 and 2008.
Jonathon Canough (U14 Regional Coach)
Jonathon is currently the Marvin Ridge JV Coach. He spent last season coaching the 14’s 2 team for Union Volleyball Club. Jonathon was a standout high school player and went on to play at Syracuse University.
Jacki Emmenecker (U15 Regional Coach)
Jacki is finishing up a great four years of college volleyball at Wingate University under Shelton Collier. She was named all conference her freshman year and came to Wingate after playing for Premier Volleyball Club out of Toledo, Ohio. She has been a coach at Carolina Courts since they opened the doors in January of 2009.
Kristen Hullinger (U18 Assistant Coach)
Kristen is the current JV Coach at Charlotte Latin. She was a defensive specialist for the North Texas Magic Volleyball Club. She has coached club for the Carolina RISE, Tejas Volleyball Club and Carolina Juniors Volleyball Club. She is also a certified official in the Carolina Region of USA Volleyball.
Erica Mauzer (U15 Regional Coach)
Erica was a three year varsity starter for Weddington High School in which she was named Team MVP her senior season along with All Conference & All County both her junior & senior season. Erica played 1 year for University of North Carolina Pembroke before transferring to Queens University, where she is currently the starting outside hitter. Erica also has been an assistant Coach for UVC for 3 seasons.
Megan McVicker (U15 Regional Coach)
Megan is also finishing up a four year Career at Wingate University. She was an all conference and team MVP at Laurel High School in Pennsylvania. She played for Pittsburg Elite Volleyball Club and has coached at Carolina Courts since January of 2009.
Chip Porter (U16 Regional Coach)
Chip is current head coach at Porter Ridge High School. He has over 9 years of coaching experience at both the high school and club level. He also has spent several summers coaching volleyball camps at Davidson College and University of North Carolina- Charlotte.
Jeanne Vincent (U14 Regional Coach)
Jeanne had a great high school career and continued her volleyball accomplishments at Keuka College in New York. She was a team MVP, All NEAC Player of the week, and is still currently tied for the assist per season record at Keuka College. Jeanne is currently the assistant JV coach at Marvin Ridge High School and spent last season coaching club at Union Volleyball Club.
Brett Wilson (U15 Assistant Coach)
Brett has coached high school as well as club volleyball for the past 7 years. His experience includes 1 year at Charlotte Latin, where he led the JV team to a 19-5 season and 2 years at Carolina Juniors. Brett has also coached at Muncie High School in Indiana for 2 years and at Munciana Club for 3 years.
