Carolina UVC - Coaches

Club Philosophy:
If the goal of CUVC were to be summed up in one sentence it would be the following: We exist to provide volleyball players at varying ages and abilities the opportunity to reach their full potential. What that means for you, the player and/or parent, is that whether you are a great player already, or a good player who wants to develop into a great player, we want to help you get better every time you step foot on the court.

Meet Our Coaches:

Jay Correll- 18 Blue Head Coach

Coach Jay Correll is currently in his 4th season as an assistant coach at UNC Charlotte. Prior to Charlotte some of his previous experiences include roles as high school head coach in Fort Walton Beach, FL, assistant coach at University of North Alabama, and volunteer coach at The University of Alabama. He has been very active in Junior Olympic Volleyball for the past 10 years working with multiple club programs along the way. Most recently he was the head coach for Carolina Region’s Youth High Performance team at the 2010 & 2011 High Performance Championships.

Leah Levanthal: - 18 Blue Assistant Coach

Leah is in her 2nd year of coaching at CUVC and is a current player at UNC Charlotte under Coach Jay Correll and Chris Redding.

Chad Vought: - 17 Blue Head Coach

Chad joins CUVC with quite a bit of coaching and playing experience. He wa the head Freshman Coach for 2 years and head Varsity Coach for 1 year at St. Philip Catholic Central High School in MI. He also coached both the 16U and 18U teams at Pennfield Volleyball Club from 2000-03. Chad's playing experience includes highschool, college, sand and a Men's class C team that won the State Championship 2 years in a row. We are excited to have Coach Vought join the coaching staff at CUVC

James Zorn - 16 Blue Head Coach

Coach Zorn was a well established volleyball player at Lake Shore High School in NY. During his high school career Zorn lead his team to the state championships in which he was named MVP and was an all conference selection. Zorn was also named to the Fab 50 list by Volleyball Magazine. He continued his playing career at Mercyhurst (PA) where he was a 4 year starter, captain and all conference selection. He has over 10 years of coaching experience at both the high school and club level. His high school teams have won 5 conference titles and 2 district titles. He has been a club coach at CUVC for the past 6 years in which he has led his team to several tournament wins including the Southern Classic, Peachtree and Jr. High Neighbor Tournaments.

Jamie Arnold - 16 Blue Assistant Coach

Jamie was a standout volleyball player at Starmount High School. She went on to play two years at Wingate University. She is currently the Head Coach at Charlotte Christian High School and has been a club coach for CUVC for the past 6 years.

Brendon Osmer - 16 Orange Head Coach

Brendon joined CUVC as an Assistant Coach for the 17 National Team during the 2011 Season. Brendon played for 2 years at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinoise, was the Volunteer Assistant coach at Queens University and is currently the Volunteer Assistant at Wingate University.

Carrie Powell - 15 Blue Head Coach

Coach Powell was a 4 year varsity letter winner at Faith Academy in Manila, Philippines and played college volleyball at Montreat-Anderson College (now Montreat College) in Montreat, NC. She coached the varsity volleyball team at Parkwood High School for 4 years, at Sun Valley High School for 11 years, started the program at Weddington High School in 2000 and is in her 12th year there. Coach Powell also started the Union Volleyball Club 10 years ago in which her objectives to coaching is to improve all the players in their individual skills and get them to work together so they excel as a team.

Bret Wilson: 15 Blue Assistant Coach

Bret has coached high school as well as club volleyball for the past 8years. His experience includes 1 year at Charlotte Latin, where he led the JV team to a 19-5 season and 2 years at Carolina Juniors. Brett has also coached at Muncie High School in Indiana for 2 years and at Munciana Club for 3 years.

JP Michaud - 15 Orange Head Coach

Karen Bradbury - 14 Blue Head Coach

Coach Bradbury is the current head coach at Providence High School. In the years that she has been Head Coach at PHS, her team has been Conference Tournament Champs in 2011, 2006 and 2007; took 2nd in State in 2011 & 2006 and were in the Final Four in 2007. Before taking over the Head Coach position, Karen was the JV and Assistant Varsity Coach at PHS for 6 years. As the Assistant Coach, she assisted the Varsity team to 3 State Championship wins and her JV team had the best conference record for 6 years. Karen has also been active in Junior Olympic Volleyball over the past 13 years and has had teams qualify and compete at Nationals 4 times. She has coached club volleyball at CJV in South Charlotte, at MVSA in the DC area and most recently, she has joined the coaching staff at Carolina UVC.

Matt Bradbury: 14 Blue Assistant Coach

Barbie Curry - 12 Blue Head Coach

Barbie Curry had a very successful high school career and went on to play college volleyball at Wingate University under Shelton Collier. Curry was an all conference performer, MVP and team captain during her stint at Wingate. Curry returned to Wingate as a Graduate Assistant under Collier from 2006-2008. She has over 8 years of club coaching experience and started the Carolina RISE program in 2009.

Carolina Union Volleyball Club

2012 marks our tenth year with players ranging from ages 12 to 18 from all over the Union, Cabarrus and Mecklenburg County areas of North Carolina. We exist to provide volleyball players the opportunity to reach their full potential.
